oil leak!!!

Default oil leak!!!

I just bought my truck a few months ago and have been cleaning it up ever sence then. I just replaced the valve cover gaskets and now I have a 4 inch puddle of oil under it after I shut it off. I put fel-pro gaskets on it. I thought I bought some good gaskets but the entire right side of the engine is covered in oil. I cleaned the covers a second time and found the middle of gaskets cut. is this common to have two gaskets split right out of the box?

i think you would've noticed if they were cut outta the box. you sure you didn't catch them on something and did you torque the bolts right? fel pros are good

I cleaned the top of the head, and the inside of the valve cover and I only snugged the bolts down to 15-20 lbs but not over tighting them. The water pump was a breeze but not the valve gaskets it makes no since.

mine is covered on the right side too under the pump

Mine was leaking on the right side under the pump and it turned out to be the idle adjuster bolt was broken off the pump.

I have fixed the problem for good now! I took the truck to the cummins and showed the parts guy my oil leak problem and he laughed at me and told me to use the gray gaskets they sell direct from cummins. I changed them in the parking lot and have no leaks since that time. thanks for your help again.
