I have a 99 24 valve and I want to increase my MPG to about 25. I dont want to spend alotta money but I dont want crap either. A turbo, programmer, and any little things that might help. Any suggestions?

hawk,

Welcome to DieselBombers......fill out your signature to give everyone an idea as to what you already have. If it is stock, do you have any gauges? One of the many things stated throughout the forum is to try and keep you EGT's below 600 with minimul boost. You could probaly stay with your current turbo for now as that would save some duckets. There are several diffent tuners and programers that have settings to increase mpg. I have heard alot about the Smarty, but if you search you can find alot of different opinons on who has what and how it has worked for them. But like I said, fill out your signature so that we can see what all you have on your truck so far. And again

25mpg is a tall order! What kind of mileage are you currently getting? Usually, a set of mild injectors (80 or 90hp) and a smarty will help if you keep your foot out of it. I have a '98.5 2WD that routinely gets 24mpg's, but it's not a common thing with these trucks. My '01 seldom see's 20 mpg...

Hawk,

When I bought my truck it had 269k on the clock and stock. When I added my Edge Juice with Attitude and tapped my VP-44, it dies shortly after. That was another 1000.00 to replace, so just a thought. Some things to think about. How may miles are on your truck now? Does it still have the stock lift pump on it? If so, you may want to consider an aftermarket lift pump or a system like an Airdog. A stock lift pump can go bad but the truck will continue to run, cause the VP-44 will act as a pump for awhile longer and then finally give out. Fuel pressure is a needed item for these VP-44's. If you get the Edge Juice and attitude that has the gauges, do not tap the pump right away. Without tapping it you will still get upto 65hp gained. You will be able to see what your fule pressure is at idle and then what it drops to at wide open throttle.

273k And yes I plan on replacing it. My sending unit is very inaccurate and I ran it out of fuel first day so I dont trust it. Was showin 1/2 a tank. Not sure if I shoulf just put like a carter ot something or step up to an airdog 100. My turbo is a 35 so I was considering either a 35II or a stock new 40. A friend told me ceramic bearing might be worth the money.

Hawk,

If your thinking mileage per gallon now, how long before more power. Honestly, I do not think it would be too long before you start wanting more power. Look into the AD 150 it comes with the big line kit, not sure if the qoo does or not. Pureflow also was carrying a new fuel tank module that already was adapted with the drawstraw in it from what I understood. As far as the turbo goes, it just depends on what your wanting to do with the truck. Best peoce of advice, is to take your time and read the forums. There is a ton of information here. Have fun bombing your truck.

Unfortunately they don't. I sure wish there was a really easy, cheap way to do it, but I haven't found it yet. An engine builder once told me there are 3 things most ask for. Cheap, Powerful, and Economical. His reply is pick 2.
