Default Hard Starting and white smoke.

Hi, I'm having a problem. My 98 12v is a hard starter and until it gets warm it blows excessive amounts of white smoke and pops. Im thinking its the piston rings, cause once it gets warm it runs great.

Might be the overflow valve or your timing may have slipped.

I thought it may have been timing but once it gets warm it runs great so im thinking its the rings. The truck only has 86,000 miles, but who knows what its been through. Its healthy and sounds great after a few minutes of warm up.

not to hijack but mines doin the same thing. but i replaced the overflow valve, all the fuel lines have been replaced, and the timing has been checked. it still leaks fuel tho, it leaks most when i have a full tank and leaks less and less as i burn more fuel.. im thinkin there could be a crack in the tank? it doesnt leak a lot but enough to notice... any ideas dr evil?

sounds like the injectors leak over night or when you let it sit.. the fuel will pool on top of the piston and sputter for a little, but now that i read your post again it seems like it lasts a little longer than what leaking fuel would do. I dont think its timing because it wouldnt go away after it warms up. Maybe the injectors just need to be rebuilt or the timing is off just a little giving it a bad start up....
