I ordered the isopro guages and cluster from a vendor here and everything is great, but I don't know where to go with the trans temp sensor. Any pics or links would help a lot. I have about two weeks before I am hooking up to a heavy load and making a wheeling trip.

 

You will get conflicting opinions on this subject. A few things to remember are: 1) There is a huge temp difference between various points in the fluid flow, under different conditions. 2) ATF+4 is rated to run at over 300 degrees F. 3) The entire sump turns over in less than a minute. and 4) Changes in normally expected behaviour are more important than absolute numbers.

Having said that, I like mine in the pan.

 

yeah, I have heard and had those talks... just wasn't sure about if there was a place to actually place the sensor without dropping the pan or buying a hundred different adapters...

My trans was actually rebuilt 200 miles before I got my hands on the truck and is still under warranty, so I don't wanna void that by removing the pan, I plan to order some nice goodies from the goerend bro group to feel a lot safer when pulling my 40' GN w/ 18' travel trailer on front and 2 4x4 trucks on back... i don't know what all this weights yet, but I will be passing a cert scale on the way to wheel, so I will check it there for personal knowledge.

 

I think they make a sensor that clamps on the outside of the line, I wouldn't expect it to be as acurate as a sensor that is actually in the fluid, but as was stated you're watchin for temps higher than normal. So once you figure out whats normal with that type of sensor, it would be effective I guess. With that being said if I had an automatic mine would be in the pan.

 

there are two 1/2" lines on the driver's side of transmission, which on is the feed to the trans cooler?

 

The warmer one.

The one close to the rear of the transmission,by the throttle linkage.BECAREFUL of the fitting going on the transmission.

On page 25 is a picture of where to install a temperature probe according to Edge.

 

I hope I'm not out of line by asking, is this the transmission port for a 1997 47RE I believe?
or is it the 48RE? I need to find the correct port for the 1997 dodge automatic.
