Default My quest for a CUMMINS!

Hey guys, I am new to the board. I have owned pretty much nothing but trucks since I started driving and I have owned one diesel and I LOVED it. In a moment of bonehead stupidity I sold said diesel in order to buy an old mid 80's Chevy that I could turn into a Mud Machine. The diesel that I sold was a very early 2006 Duramax LLY 2500 HD. I had a 4 inch turbo back exhaust on it that lead to 5 inch stacks with big rig flippers. I also had a AFE stage II cold air intake on the truck as well as a mild programmer. I had big plans for the truck but obviously they never came to pass as I sold it.

With that being said, even when I owned my Chevy Diesel I always wanted a Cummins. I like the First Gen and Second Gen the best. As I type this I am about to start a new job and will have some fairly good money coming in. My expenses are low and I am currently single. Therefore I am on a quest to purchase a solid old Cummins and turn it into the truck of my dreams. I REALLY like the body styling of the First Gen trucks. However I have been told that the Second Gen engines are easier to get more power out of. My plans for the truck would be to do a FULL restoration from the frame up and to do MAJOR engine mods. I would ultimately like to end up with a truck that I could drive everyday and then take to local and state fairs on the weekends as a puller and kick some ***. What direction do you guys recommend I start off in?

Hey guys, thanks for the replies. I agree that the first step is finding a truck, . I am starting a new job SOON and I am gonna be on the look out for a NICE old cummins that I can use as the basis for what I want to build. I have been looking on ebaymotors and craigslist a lot recently and it seems that they are actually pretty hard to find.

Hey Big *****, what are you thinking about asking for it? And how soon are you looking to unload it? Like I said, I am starting a new job pretty soon and money should not be a problem then. But it would probably be a few months before I am ready to purchase a truck. PM me some pics of the truck if you want and I would be more than happy to take a look at it. Who knows, maybe you will still have the truck for sale when I am ready to buy.

hey this things always for sale just whoever brings me the money for it. well i'd like to get about 4 out of it. and the few months is no issue for me. i'll probably still be driving it after tonight im going to have the fuel pump turned up and im probably about to order some 90 hp injectors for it. other than that i got a K&N cold air straight pipe 4 inch to a 6 inch tip it's an auto tranny but you don't have to worry about it messing up cus it's got a 600 hp torque converter and the tranny had been buffed up so i fixed that. brand new tires on it got them put on about 2 weeks ago. if you want to PM me your phone number and i can just txt you the pics i don't have any of it on here
