Default Tool Box suggestions. What would you add for a long trip?

Taking the family on a long vaca (6000 miles round trip) in the 08 6.7.

i'll be packing the regular bs tools: Two of every wrench 1/4 thru 1", Two Socket Sets (one deep well), various extensions and adapters, Flats, Phillips, wiring kit (with multi meter), Duct tape, torque wrench, obd scanner, hammers (various), hack saw, pry bar, flash light, 30 foot of 2 inch three strand nylon line (rope for you land lubbers), battery cables, odds and ends bolts, nuts washers.

Think i'll pack an extra belt and one top and bottom radiator hose.

What would you add, or suggest.

Any torxs or allens on these, and i hadn't thought about metric, GOD PLEASE NOT METRIC. i gottem just hate two pack two sets of two of everything.

Thanks in advance!

You know in advance that you will do a 6000miles round trip.

truck tech:

- Replace belt, waterpump and pulleys in advance. You can take the old ones as spares, too( I would carry new items)
- Replace all fluids and check all hoses and connectors for leaks.
- Have a usable spare tire and all tools needed for a tire change handy.
- Don't carry cheap tools with you- you want your repairs done at the first try!
- Swing the grease gun in advance, check the rubber seals, steering linkage.
- get your alternator brushes replaced(depending on mileage)
- replace the filters: air, tranny(!), oil, fuel...(carry spares!)
- check the exhaust system, replace rusty hangers and clamps in advance!
- the spare tube of JB weld can save your leaky radiator and some gasket sealer is always handy...

personal preparation:

During a 6000 mile round trip you will travel trough several states. Get the addresses and locations for dealers for that trip- or at least the locations of the autoparts store you usually shop in advance before you leave home.

No need to search for help and assistance during a trip with the family.

It is also cool to know where the next fuel station is- if you have a GPS you can program in all those places, adresses and dealer location in in advance- very cool and convinient.I do love my little Garmin 60Csx.
Stay in touch with your friends- let them know were you are.

during the trip:

- perform a daily maintenance check: check all fluids, belts, hoses, tires before you leave in the morning!
just write a little check list and use it when you step around your truck in the morning or during a rest.

Have fun at your trip and with your reliable truck.
Don't start without prepping- it's the first step into failure.

Take torx for replacing the rear bulbs. Extra bulbs and fuses are a good idea too. Otherwise you are set. You could take a bottle jack and a 4 way lug tool to make changing a tire easier.

Might want to think about a set of metric tools as well.

I have to agree with you on this one. Do an oil change before you go check her all over and go. Carry some basic tools for the just in case but you'll most likely spend more time moving them out of the way and never use them.
