98.5 cummins slipomatic seems to take off in 2nd gear and surges at 40 mph but can power through that seems like bad spot in tps but 2nd gear take off blows. will start in first on cold trans start. filter and oil change and bands torqued about 5000 miles ago. truck is stock 157000 miles was doing it at 70 mph this winter average 5 degree temps outside and lots of snow have had lots of rain latley mabye moisture prob i will quit rambeling now any help or sugestions would be appreated

 

It may not be the same but my buddies moms 05 had this issue if I remember right and it was the vavle body went bad from all the power they threw at the stock trans. After a new hd tc and valve body it was fixed. But I could be wrong, just sounds like what happened to their common rail

 

hopefuly it gets me through till this winter when i get laid off ill tare into it mabye a trans rebuild was gona chip the beast but way to many rain days this year forward and reverse is more important than power and smoke

 

Start off in 2nd gear sound like the Governor Pressure Solenoid in the trans is sticking.They make a kit to replace these solenoids.."RE" Solenoid Kit 96 to 99

The surging is from TC lock and unlock a noise filter will solve that problem good to put on the truck.First check all the grounds on the truck for cleaninees and that there tight.Load test the batterys to make they are good.
