D stands for 2wd and W stands for 4wd

tell me what the ecm is for on the 1st gen?

I actually think its a PCM but I think it only controls a few things like the volt regulater,speed sensor,and I think the transmission od and throttle position sensor but Im not 100% sure.

is pretty much runs the transmission shifting (auto only) alternator control, and some gauges, thats about it. and they only used a ecm on 91.5 and up. 91 and down uses just a preheater controller pretty much

I think that's only 92 and 93. I think on the 91.5 they still use the external voltage regulator, etc...

i thought they went to an ecm at the same time as the intercooler. i could be wrong though
