Default another 4x4 problem

so i adjusted the linkage on the 4x4 again and it started going in istantly again it hasnt been going in right away but the problem is fixed now. so now tonight i was pulling out with a load of wood and went to take my 4x4 out and the light didnt go off so i kicked on it and the tires spun so it was out but the light didnt go off, so i drove home about 3 miles and i told my dad about it and he looked and said the 4wheel drive shaft is still turning, so now the light wont go out and the drive shaft is still turning whats going on with it now? but its out of 4x4.

thats normal this transfercase is a full time case which causes the front shaft to turn but its not engaged as far as I know of. it engages and disengages to front axle like lockout hubs but will change from high to low range. correct me if I am wrong but this is how I know it to work unless its in neutral on the transfer case

the only ones that don't turn when driving are the old ford 205's and others but being newer I would think it would turn when driving... mine does

you say that the front drive shaft is turning right? but its not in 4wd right? meaning only the 2 rears are turning.... sounds like its in 2wd to me but the light wont go off..... have you ever notice the front drive shaft turning before?

Its that damn vacuum actuated coupling in your front diff, mine does the same thing. I drove my truck from texas to pa and the problem accured 15miles from the rig. I slide the coupling over by hand and backed it with the shift fork. I now just kick in the transfer case and i have 4wheel drive. The down side is my hubs are always locked and milage suffers a bit. Not sure if it helps, but that was my fix.

sounds like you need the vacuum diaphram on the front shaft. chances are its bent or coroded. the light is attached to this diphram and shaft. last time i checked they were areound $210 but i work for dodge and that was my price so expect a little higher.
