Default transfer case

so i was on a recent trip to virgina hauling my car to sell it to a friend and weather got mad in the mountains and i had to use four wheel drive( my tires are about bald) and my transfer case on the way home started making a noise like two pieces of metal grinding together.. but it is in 4 high now 4 low.. any ideas?? my friend who was with me says he thinks it is a bearing ... any help would be greatly appreciated

well thanks for your help this week i will try the u joints and see what happens
where is the bearing at in the transfer case or are there a whole bunch of them?

There is definitely more than one, you need at least 2 per shaft. Minimum 2 hafts per t-case, main shaft and front output shaft. You'll have to take it apart to find it, if it is a bearing.

Well, it happens. Not to sure about common. Just like everything else it all depends on how it is used, and serviced. 307,000 Kms on my truck, T-Case untouched. I change the fluid every 50,00 Kms though, and 4x4 is rarely used.

Yes Check your u joints. i just blew up my t-case. all because of u joints. i heard a popping when 4 x4 was in and neglected to crawl under to check what it was. a 15 dollar part is costing me 1500 now. i blew the whole case in two. was driving down the highway when i vibration started and got worse. well befor a icould make it home to crawl under and check she wwent down.

that sucks zrendel.. hope mine doesnt make it that point.. soory about that happening to you.. my truck hasnt movedsince it got back.. and thank you very much turbo20psi i appreciate it
