whats up with the ticking lift pump!?!

Default whats up with the ticking lift pump!?!

my buddies 1996 cummins with a 180 pump and my truck with a 180 pump both have this ticking in the lift pump. is this something to worry about or is it just something some of em do? thanks in advance!

mine did that when it was goin bad. got a new one n it went away

The springs are getting weak in it and they aren't controlling the valve and the ticking is the valve hammering the seat.....he should get a new one on order. THey can run a long time after ticking but it's a crap shoot.....

I asked the same question almost 10 years ago when I bought mine. A trusted online member told me sometimes they tick, sometimes they don't. Haven't touched it and still no problems 160k later.

If he's going to keep the truck stock then a stock LP will do and you can get one from Geno's garage or go to Cummins. If you aren't going to keep it stock then I would upgrade to a FASS and call Kenny at Ken's Performance to get you all set up. It will make fuel filter changes much easier as well.

im not going ***** out like i did with my old truck. i just want a mild runner that is reliable. im not shooting for big power just 300-350 smokeless horsepower. i dont think im going to bother getting a airdog etc.. i think a stock replacement will suit me fine.

are they easy to install? i know on my vp truck i can change the supply pump in 20 minutes...
