Question 1989 12v pump

Can anyone help with a fuel pump problem? I tried to take the diaphragm out to turn it, it will not come out, it will move up and down, but will not come completely out. Also what is the unit mounted on the lower side of the pump that has a wire connection on it?(fuel heater, switch)? I just put this engine in a 99 Ford SD F-350. Thanks

Sometimes the pin will get stuck in there if its already facing towards the deepest part of the groove, the needle that rides on it gets hung up on the lip under the "cone", try turning it some to push that needle away with a shallower part of the groove

And i think the unit your referring to is the cold start advance

Theres a thread up near the top of the list called "1st gen sticky" you will find just about everything you'll want to know in there, its a compilation of all of the tech and how to's that have come through the forum, like a 1st gen encyclopedia

Hi everyone, I got the pin out, turned it, ran the star wheel down, adj. the smoke screw, none of it changed anything, no smoke , no more power, it is very slow on take off, not much power on hills. Do I need inj. pump rebuilt, or is there something else I can do? I have been a mechanic for 30+ yrs. this is the first time working on a 6b Cummins. Thanks for your help.

have you turned the full power screw any? thats where your going to get a noticeable difference, the fuel pin doesnt seem to help much untill your moving a bit more fuel in total

the full power screw is located in the back of the pump inbetween the block, kinda a pain to get to. give it about a half turn in an it should make a rather noticeable differance

I dont think you will find 50hp in the afc w/o an aftermarket pin.

1st question... Do you have a pyro guage??? if not stop and get one. If you do get your self a 3k spring that will wake the truck up then start turning on the "full fuel" aka "full power" screw. You will definatly notice a difference. Again if you don't have a pyro GET ONE.

the "how too" article in diesel power stated a 75hp increase from the free pump mods.I dont think they covered the fullload screw either.

Ok, now truck will not start, inj. pump leaking. Can any one direct me to a good place to buy a rebuilt one? Is there any really good info on rebuilding one yourself? Is there any complete kits, not just seals and gaskets? I think someone has been into this pump before
