Default Engine Oil Life

Hey there... just wondering how to reset the engine oil life meter on my dash. How long between oil changes do you guys go?

Turn the key on (without the truck running) and press the gas peddle three times. I usually go 5000 miles but the Oil life meter is set for 10,000 mile intervals.

Everyone's different and has different criteria. 5k is the safe bet IMO. A dealer in aftermarket diesel equip, I just talked to, runs dino Rotella @ walmart for $10/gallon, but changes at 3k. I run Mobile 1 full synthetic ($20/gallon @ walmart) and change at 5k.

Some of you guys/gals with 'newer' common rail fuel systems (non-ford, except the NEW ones) can probably go longer; up to 10k. I've heard from a few sources that the Amsoil & Oil Guard relocated filters help reduce soot in the oil from blow-by/egr.

I run amsoil oil and filter. Analysis said I was still fine after 10,000. I changed it anyway and now im gonna check at 12000.

With today's oils, you can run upwards of 7500 mile intervals with no problem. As mentioned above, if you go with a good synthetic, you can go a bit farther. For example, our diesel oils are guaranteed 3x the OEM interval(filters need to be changed at OEM interval, unless using amsoil's). You can even go farther if using oil analysis.
But back to the original question, most DIC's go to 8-10k, so you can run most oils that distance if preferred.

7500 is a very safe bet 10K is a good place to change it without an analysis. I have ran Delo 400 to 15K and it was still in good shape.
