Default How hot is too hot?

I can't find any old threads. Anyway My truck tows 80% of the time and although I have seen about 1250 degrees I usually back out before then. How hot is it ok to hit pulling a hill and how hot can I run on for an extended amount of time. I have seen many loads well over 20k but that's what diesels are for. and yeah my truck has about 365k miles on it The engine supposedly has been rebuilt.

1250-1300 you can hold it there all day. I wouldn't worry about hitting 1600-1700 for a few seconds though. My pyro only goes to 1600* and I have pegged it out sled pulling and drag racing before.

You tend to start getting into trouble on a truck without proper mods at around 1400 F pre turbo.

I don't like it when I'm above 1300 but I usually run out of room on the road anyway...

I was told that if I kept it under 1350 I wouldn't hurt anything, but I read somewhere (I think the Dr. Performance website-not 100% sure though) that you don't want to exceed 1050(give or take) for an extended period of time, which I would guess to be at least 1 min, maybe more. But like the others said, I have a budy that maxes out a 1600 gauge at will on a stock charger, for well over a year now. So there is a risk, but these engines were built to be abused, just make sure it's fun!

A stock HY or HX has the ablity to melt itself at 1450 or above. This don't happen everytime but I would not take the chance. I don't let mine get above 1300.

Typical towing of firwood I would hold out at 1,200*F and run all day like that...
