Hey guys I just bought an other 2001 dodge ram 2500 4x4 that I thought it was a good deal I bought it for $3000 with the transmission out it has a NV5600 the guy tore that thing out I had it rebuild for $1500 the truck has 226000 miles , it cleaned out pretty nice . I am not planning in putting a lot of money at the time other than what it needs but I also want to prevent spending more like the Vp44 going out so I have installed a fuel pressure gauge and this is my concern, at idle I am getting 11 psi and at WOT between 7 and 8 psi but when I am taking off and I step on it some times it gets pretty close to 5 psi sometimes almost under it when I step on it hard so I've been taking it easy and being very careful not to get under 5 psi. What do you guys think?

 

Well, with those numbers there are 2 issues.

1. the lift pump is likely gone or going. Replace it with something with filters on it (read Air Dog or FASS or whatever else)
2. the VP44 may be prematurely worn as a result of the low WOT pressure but by not goosing it and addressing the LP you may be ok - it is tough to say though.

Throw a code reader on it and see if there are any issues beyond what you now see.

 

Have you changed your fuel filter?

 

Yes first thing I did.

 

Throw a scanner on it. Thats almost always the place to start.


$1500 for a NV5600 is CHEAP. You did good there.

 

I don't have a scanner rigth now but I am planning on
getting it scaned . But I did do the key deal were you open it and close it 3 times and all I got was PPCU.

 

just hooked fuel pressure sensor up 8psi at idle get on it hard drop to 0 will changing fuel filter help going with air dog 150 next week.

 

I would not drive that truck until u get the airdog installed.

 

had the truck over a year dont know how long it has been that way. normal driving does not get below 5 psi

 

I personally do not trust the key on/off trick....a scanner is more reliable.
