Default oil leak

My girlfriends brothers truck has a nasty oil leak. The trucks got 178,000 miles on it, he has alot of oil coming from under the injection pump. From what i can see its from the shaft in the vacume pump in between the vacume pump and power steering pump. there is alot of oil on the front diff so i am assuming its from the same leak. Anyone have this issue? and how was it to fix? hard/expensive?

yep had that issue last year, the vacuum pump seal is shot. you have to pull the power stearing pump to get to it. i just rebuilt the entire pump with new seals when i did mine, got everything from cummins. wont break the bank

Are You SURE its coming from the vacum pump?.
The reason I ask is IF he kicked the KDP out and it got caught by the cam it would have broken the timing case right by the pump and the crack may not be visible from the front or top of the motor.I had the same thing happen way back when my second dowel pin kicked and it leaked oil down the backside of the p-pump,ran over the vacum pump and down onto the front differential. If I were you I'd get a better look at it as if the KDP had never been addressed it could also be that..
