I have the timing cover off and im fixing the KDP. The kit I have from bd diesel comes with a replacment pin. But I cant get my old one out. It doesnt look to be broken or anything, but its flush with the timing case and I cant get a grip on it with anything. Should I drill or use a reverse bit to pull it out? Or just leave it in and put the tab over it?

 

You do NOT pull it out. Put the cover on and loctite the longer bolt with Red Loctite (#262). also put a small amount of Loctite on the other bolts that are under the cover.

 

Thank you! Everythings back together I jsut have one question..
Its been about a week since its been started and im leary about letting it sit any longer and lettin all the oil run to the bottom and bearings/shafts n stuff getting too dry. Its filled with new oil now I just need radiator fluid. Water hose is at the house which is about 300ft away from the garage. Would it hurt if I let it run for a couple minutes with the radiator being dry? As long as it doesnt heat up I should be fine right?

 

for sakes of priming the engine... min maybe two tops... diesels are built pretty rugged and it takes that long just for the exhast manifold to start to warm up... i dont see any damage from a min or two from a cold start... how ever you wont be able to tell how hot the truck is getting... with out coolant to transfer the heat your temp probe wont work and the block will remain cool to the touch... if you have any doubts... if the exh manifold is too hot to hold your hand on... shut it off... you really dont need that long to prime the system

 

I would seriously think about putting water in it.

Or get a buddy and tow/push it over.

ehhh i'm going to bow to the higher powers here... Dr's orders i just know that when ya get that itch... it's hard not do do something of the sort; and also no matter what most people say.. they end up doing it anyway. so take my advice only if you think it worth it. if you want to do it 100% correct as you should either use tap water... and if you dont feel like pushing it go get afew gallons of distilled water at just over a buck a gallon you cant go wrong...

plus distilled water doesnt have any minerals in it; so deposits wont form and PH will stay balanced longer
