I would assume you could but its just going to sit there and smoke a whole lot and its going to generate alot of heat. IMO I wouldn't touch the pump without a pyrometer... even a stock truck with an exhaust is still capable of frying the pistons.

alight. i asked my friend bout this and he said we could but the pyro sensor in the dp . i know its most accurate in the exhaust housing of the turbo but will that still be good. im tryin to save some money anywhere i can. and if i can do this ill save alot of money. the diese shop by me charges roughly 600 for a pyrro trans temp and boost guage and install

How are you saving money by putting the pyro sensor in the dp? As for putting it in the dp your gauge could be off by as much as 400* IMHO your wasting your time with the pyrometer if your not tapping the manifold... Waiting may be difficult but it might save you a couple thousand in the long run. Trust me...

no dont put it in the downpipe put it in the exhaust manufold its way more accurate. you dont need to know what the temps are leaving the turbo its entering the turbo you need to be concerned about

the guage install is easy. go to the hardwhere store and buy the 1/4"npt tap or the 1/8"npt witch ever you need and the drill bit that goes with it....its only about 10 dollars worth of tools.. then just pick the spot on the manifold and drill it. then run the tap down the hole... then take a pencle magnet and get the shavings out and put the thurmocouple in... it realy is that easy.

its not hard. First punch the spot where you want to drill, then just drill a pilot hole first (not in the middle or you'll hit the rib) then go with the full size bit. Also another way of making sure you don't leave shavings in your manifold is to use some type of lube (I used white lithium grease) on the bit to catch the shavings... Another thing when tapping the manifold tap it on the back because cylinders 5&6 run hotter because they are the last to be cooled
