your first step, Buy a pyrometer, and a boost psi guage, this way you can moniter your engines vital sighns, your next step is to deside, Do i want to dump alot of cash into this thing? or just make it a little more fun to drive? or make it a trailer towing machine? you also want to let us know what kind of truck you have. is it auto? or standard. There is alot of power to gaine, with little money to spend. Search some of the threads. you will learn alot. the plate your refuring about, its a part of your afc. governer. its located in the top of the fuel pump. thers alot of things you can do, buy a plate,, grind your own profile, slide it foward. but i would get gauges and read some of the threads in this forum.
This is primarily a Farm truck. We keep it in good condition to run for equipment and haul cattle. Not driven in our Mi winters, so it's kind've a work toy. Automatic. 200,000 mi
We want more pulling power, is our main objective. Playing is fun, but work pays the bills.
"Gett'er Done" if you know what I mean....

I would just grind your fuel plate to a #100, or somthing around there. You can look on cummins database, it will tell you how to do it, pretty simple. If that auto hasnt been rebuilt, you dont want to put too much fuel to it..
just a thought, but I believe the 97 auto plate does give you a little more fuel than the 95, that would give you some more power and should still be safe on the trans.
someone confirm or shoot down that the 97 plate is different?
