Default 1997 12v 5speed perfect setup

alright let me give you a litttle background on my truck and what i want to go with it. First off it is a bone stock 1997 12v, 4x4 5speed. with 90,000 miles on it. Alright i am going to set my timing on the pump or pay someone to do it. and only want to do it once as well as the rest of my mods. So anyone that has found the perfect combo of timing fuel plate and afc tuning i would like to know it.

I want the truck to first off be reliable, start good and easy cold or hot out, and get better than stock mpg. OK now i also want the most power with out hurting my mpg, drivability or reliability. So i am thinking a fuel plate grind or just buy a new fuel plate, bump my afc up a little and of coarse do the whole timing thing, i just dont want any timing that will be hard on my engine.

i am thinking set timing at 15 to 15.5 but i dont know what do yall think?

2nd i am thinking #100 plate and afc tuned to where it drives good and doesnt smoke out the block when i am driving around.

and of coarse get the turbo to put out more boost.

now what do you guys think about me doing the 3k gsk thing would it even be somthing i would want to do for my intntions? I do want power when i get on it but want it tame when im not on it hard.

i am mainly just worried about the timing issue since i will probably be travling to a good reputable shop to get it done and dont want to have to get it done twice.

A couple of tips on the timing - make sure you use someone that is very familiar with doing it. They can easily screw it up - ask lots of questions and be informed so you ask the right questions. Also, make sure the clean the pump shaft with brake cleaner - if it isnt free from oil and grease the timing will slip and youll have to pay again. Also, I believe the torque spec is 150 ft-lbs. (also ver important).

Another tip - make sure you take care of the Killer Dowel Pin (KDP) when adjusting the timing. if you dont know what that is, a quick search will answer all of your questions.
