different ratings. you NEED the right fluid or it will take out the trans. You have to get it from chev, dodge, or ams.

from what I understand the Nv4500 reguires a GL-4 fluid. The Valvoline is a GL-5 which has a higher sulfer content. From what I understand the higher sulfer content attacks the yellow metal peices(syncros). However heat also plays a factor. The syncros are in more danger with higher heat because the heat speeds up the process. However a gl-5 fluid runs cooler than a gl-4 so I don't know.

FWIW my dad uses the valvoline stuff and we just replaced his tranny at 300k. Mostly because 3rd gear syncro was gone( it always ground going into gear) and he ended up loosing reverse. They don't carry the Castrol stuff around here either and the Mopar stuff is expensive as hell.

No its not - Castrol is the only oil thats meant to be used with the carbon fiber synchros in the NV-4500.

Using anything else risks a teardown.

No...not carbon fiber. Had a brain fart.

But they are some sort of fiber and are not the bronze/brass ones like in the NV5600.

Quad4x4 Home sells the oil and the shipping shouldnt be bad for Brandon since they are in Montana.

Some interesting reading here: QUAD 4 x4
