Killer dowel pin
I took the front cover off my motor and saw the pin was stickin out half way, this is after 200,000 miles on it, scary. Anyways, took a piece of steel and made a "cap" to retain the pin like the ones you can buy. My fear is now that the aluminum case might expand and the retainer will rotate down into the gear train. I can see that it will but I saw the ones you buy fit the entire "cone" shape of pin area. My bolt is torqued and thread loc'd, but still, anyone else made one and had any issue like this? I hate to take the front cover off, but hate even more to be stuck in Kentucky with Banjo music.
Yes, Im worried more that the aluminum will expand and the retainer I made will rotate, I was banking on the radius of the edge to retain it but I see that the professional kits go the entire way into the cavity, mine covers half the dowel pins face.
