I used my overdrive off switch for the first time last night and was a little confused by how the truck reacted. I was not towing anything, but I expected it to just unlock the torque converter. Instead it took the transmission down to third gear and would not let it shift into fourth before lockup. Is this right or am I just crazy? If it's not, how would I go about fixing it?

That's how it works. It does not unlock the converter. The way the transmission shifts is 1-2-3-TC lock-up - OD. So, obviously if you switch it to OD OFF then you will be in 3rd with the TC locked.

 

Yeah thats right. Overdrive off keeps teh truck out of 4th gear. Locks it out so all you will get is 3rd gear locked up.
