All of our firetrucks have a cable on a threaded ****, turn it out you raise your RPMs, turn it all the way in and you have normal pedal operation. This of course makes it possible to run the needed pumps at the needed RPM on the truck when not on the road.
Great time to work on it now. I was working on one last fall, but it got cold and I dont have a garage large enough for my truck so it never got finished.
Some guys have tried a solenoid off of a carburator but most have had limited success with that.
Im thinking a PTO cable would work. I was messing around with a choke cable but dont want to drill a hole in the dash unless absolutely necessary.

i ran a wrecker for many years one being a 96 cummins and it had a simular set up to the fire engine with the cable on a crank. except the crank had a spring loaded ratchet so you could push a center a release button on the **** and it brings it back down to idle. the place that built them tow trucks is still in buisness i'll see if i can get a part # or even a manfacture name off them.

I think thats like the PTO cable that I was mentioning. Was it like this?:
PTO Cable - 10' - Mfg# R04D4.5X10
Cables, Push-Pull, PTO -- Midwest Control Products Corp.

PTO Cable - 10' - Mfg# R04D4.5X10 that would work wonder if there was a way to set it up so that it stays at a constat length for a certain idle. im sure the return spring on the pump will cause that cable to retract, if it doesnt have a lock
