Default Question about Shocks...

The shocks on my truck are still the factory shocks at 196,000 miles. It's definetely time for new ones and since I don't really have cash to spend on this right now I'm considering using my Les Schwab acccount and just having them put shocks on for me. I don't know much about les shwab shocks and since this is the work truck I don't want to make a mistake and waste the time or money. So any input on les shwab shocks? Or would I be better off waiting until I can afford some bilsteins or something?

Especially if this is a work truck stick with Billstein, best shock on the road for the money for these heavy trucks.

I realize the Bilstein's are probably a better choice and if I had the money to do what you guys above have done to your trucks then I probably would go with the Bilsteins, but I can't afford it right now. These trucks are so damn expenxive fix and build up, it's crazy! If I had the money I could easily put more money into this truck than what I paid for it. Definetly not something a poor stone mason like myself has to look forward to. Anyways, I was thinking about going with the RMX monotube that Les Schwab has. Comes with lifetime warranty. I figure I can't go wrong there. Anyone run these before?

Let me promise ya, I ain't rich by any stretch of the imagination. The mods you see on my truck are an accumulation of 10 years of replacing things as they break. You will find very few add on's in my list. When it breaks I spend the same money as I would on stock parts and find deals on the aftermarket stronger stuff.

Don't know what the Les Schwab shocks are gonna cost but I bet the Billsteins aren't much more if you put a request for a price quote in the vendor section of this site. And Lifetime warranty, better check that out close cause there is no way they could warranty any shock on these trucks for the half a million miles or more they will last if taken care of.

Bilstein 5100s shouldn't be more than $300 a set... and installation is simple.

Thanks for all the replies. I ended up just charging the shocks on the les schwab acount. It was around $450 for front shocks and a new Dean MTR tire. The damn tire is what killed me. Anyways I went with the RMX Monotube that les schwab carries. It is made by Gabriel. They are supposed to compare closely to the 5100's from what I've read plus I've got the lifetime warranty. We'll see how it goes. It does ride better but I found out my ball joints are shot so I've got to replace those. Probably do that myself. Don't mind paying for shocks when I get a lifetime warranty out of it.
