Default ATF as fuel additive ??

My buddy told me that his grandpa always runs dextron 2 or 3 ATF as a fuel additive for lubrication purposes . Can you do this and if so which fluid is best ? I currently am running Lucas fuel treatment as my additive . ( When I run green fuel that is ... )

alot of people use it there is another post on this several pages long. one thing to think about is the friction modifyers in atf a little rough over time on the injectors in my opinion but everyone has one. search the forums for alot of good reading

In the old days it made a good additive. But those old days are long since past. Way to many additives in tranny fluid now days to be used in fuel.

Thanks for the info guys , will stick to Lucas for now . Seems to be keeping the system fairly clean and lubed

I saw a guy who runs his 7.3 on 90% ATF and 10% diesel. Hasn't had any problems with it. I don't remember any other details though.

in a 12v you dont have to be worried about being lubed or not like the 24v. the reason is, is becuase the p-7100 is lubricated by engine oil rather than pure diesel like the vp44. its always nice to throw something else in but no need for it. i run castral 2 stroke super outboard oil in my tank along with the lucas but i dont pay for the stuff

x2 I run marine 2 stroke, no nasty additive's, i also like the marine for the ability to help dissipate moisture.

Incorrect - the barrels and plungers do not come in contact with oil.

Many will tell you otherwise, but ATF is bad for any diesel. AFT was once ok to use but the formulation of ATF has changed drastically over the years and with the extremely tight tolerances used in todays modern diesel engine you do DONT want to use it.

the reasoning i've always heard about the ATF is the mild detergent in it for cleaning out the fuel system.
