i have a buddy that just put a dpf delete on his truck about 3 weeks ago and last Friday he put an EGR delete kit in and yesterday he was on his way home and his truck started acting weird and then his cel came on and lost almost all his power and he took it to the dealer and they said due to the egr delete it cut off he air supply and over heated his turbo till it cooked it...and now myself i have one come coming though h &s and im kind of iffy about putting it on when i get it what would ya'll think about that as far as the egr kit cooking your turbo

 

I think the dealer is tryin to get outa covering it under warranty I personally think its bs cause its the 1st time ive heard of any of this

 

I could be wrong on this, but doesn't the turbo get it's air from the air filter? The egr takes a certain amount of exhaust & recirculates it into the fresh air to re-burn some it to lower emissions. Right? Because of the fact that without the egr you're not re-burning exhaust, you would think the turbo would run cooler. Of course I don't know this for sure, that was my thinking on it though.

 

the EGR never comes close to your turbo. it comes from the exhaust manifold directly to your intake manifold. it doesnt re-route enough exhaust to heat the turbo enough to cook it. i think your buddy should pop his hood and ask where the egr and the turbo connect and then tell the dealer he's full of it

that is bs. turbo will run cooler with egr plated. my turbo carried on till i plated it

 

ok thanks guys thats about what i was gonna tell him but i wanted to double check with someone before i really went out and told him and gave him the wrong info.

 

yea, that dealer is full of crap...mine truck has been being retarded due to the EGR....im fixing to plate mine off...im glad i found a good dealer that dont care about mods, since the service manager is the dealers son, his 6.7 is modded..he was tryin to sell me his superchip yesterday for my truck...

 

Yes, the stock turbo is water cooled. That dealer is full of it. If it's done properly, there is no way deleting the EGR or DPF will make the turbo run hotter. An oil restriction, or coolant flow restriction to the turbo will make them run hot, as will excessive overfueling without proper airflow to support it. I would also tell my friend to take it elsewhere. Good luck.
