Default Need advice on Mega Cab...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am wanting to get a Mega Cab really bad and I am currently looking pretty steady for one. I am looking for the 06 or early 07 5.9L.

I have not had to much personal experiance with issues on these trucks as I mainly see the older stuff in my shop.

So, I am wanting to know from those of you that have experiance what to look for as far as week spots on these trucks??

Are the automatic trannys in these truck holding up well??

I have found an untouched 06 3500 Laramie with 93,000 miles and automatic that I really like. Plans for the truck will be Intake, 8" dual stacks, Bully Dog PMT and some big tires and wheels. That will most likely be all I will do to the truck other than some accessories and tint.

Any advice or help will is greatly appriciated.

The tranny will be the weakest point on the truck. I know a few guys that put a little over 100k on the truck with little or no problems but shortly after the 100k point the tranny goes out and that is with the truck in stock form. If you plan on adding any power you will need to help the tranny. Another thing to look at is the sterring on these trucks. The sterring box is kind of weak. Good luck you will love the mega cab they are nice.

get the truck, put a tranny and the goodies you want and run it. Mine with 40" tires and 3.73 gears is great on the freeway (2000rpm @ 90mph) but i need to gear it badly. Also, i am on my 2nd tranny. Smoked overdrive this last fall. only reason the dealer did it was cause of warranty

Love my Mega Cab. Most of these guys on here are 4 wheelers but I'm 2 wheel. Got no need for 4WD. The truck rides great, I've had 1/2 ton trucks that rode rougher than mine. I know the dually will ride a little rougher though. Only got 46k on mine & the only issue I have with the trans is hunting for gears, mostly 1st - 2nd. Very annoying. There's a TSB out on that, I haven't been to the dealer yet to see if they'll fix it. The Mega's also have ventillation issues. I get about half the air volume on the panel that I should. Dealer replaced the blend door at about 28k but didn't help. There's also a TSB on that but Chrysler doesn't know how to fix. They say that since the Mega has vents in the back seat there's a diverter plate under the dash that sends more air to the back than the front. Other than those couple little items, no other truck I'd rather have.
