Default Cold weather no power

I have a 02 Cummins diesel. I live in Ontario in the winter when its below freezing my truck starts great, but no power till it gets warm. Pedel to the floor for first 15 mins I can't beat 10mph. Then once it gets warm runs like a top. But absoltley no power til warm. In the summer when warm out can start and go and runs like a top. This truck has been like this for 170,000 km. But only have the porblem when cold outside.

Next chance you get, toss some #1 fuel in her, and that should fix you up!!! Also, wouldn't hurt to change out the fuel filter.

BTW, welcome to Diesel Bombers!!

Also, add a Cetane Booster and a fuel lubricant. #1 fuel is "dry" compared to #2 fuel.

Ok... A few things to check over...

1. Do you have any error codes???
OBD II Error Codes

Error Code listing...

2. Do you have enough fuel pressure?
Lift Pump Diagnostics

Fuel Pressure gauge is a MUST on all VP44 injection pumped trucks...

Yeah, I had the same problem last week... I was driving home from TX and didn't bother to grab any additives....it was 71F (20C) when I left, and less than 36hrs later I was in -10F (-25C) weather in Wyoming and even while driving on the highway it was too much for it...truck died on me...Just use some Howes or a similar winter additive in your tank and you'll be fine. After I ran the Howes I haven't had a single problem since, and the temp has been hovering around -20C here for the whole week and my truck has been sitting most of the time but she ran like a dream last night after I got it started and let it run for 20minutes. Also, you might want to look into getting a winterfront for your truck...they're ugly, but they'll keep the engine nice and toasty and help prevent poor performance and all that cold fuel crap.
