Default What Would Be A Good Exhaust For My Truck?

Looking to replace the factory exhaust with something that will keep the EGTs down. I do a bit of towing, actually there is usually something on my deck or on the hitch. Prefer to not have a extremely loud truck, dont want he neighborhood complaining. also would like a turbo back system, that fits properly, will last and is built with quality, and of course wont break the bank.

My truck is an 05 ram 3500 quad cab long box 4x4. Only performance item I have is an Edge EZ module.

Thanks

… Granted, I'm the NFG on this board, and admittedly I am not the subject matter expert on Cummins exhaust systems but I do have a recommendation.

Unless you're just itching to spend cash, why don't you consider "cleaning" out the existing catalytic converter? It makes significant improvements over stock, costs ~$100 or so. It won't necessarily enable your win at the county truck pulls, but you'll realize marked improvements over doing nothing – all without breaking the bank.

Cut the cat and add a better muffler to the stock system. If its an 05, you have a factory 4 inch, and unless you are planning on way more mods, going bigger is just a huge waste of money. Stainless exhausts tend to crack, so thats an even bigger waste of money that has to be replaced every so often. I had a muffler shop straight pipe mine for 40 bucks, and Im running a big turbo and more mods. Never had a single thought of changing it, unless I went with stacks. Even then I wouldnt waste my money changing anything in front of the stacks.

I have 3 friends who made fun of me for keeping the stock pipe on mine when they went stainless 5". Less than 50,000 miles and they were buying new exhausts. 1 second gen, 2 3rd gen. If yours is holding together, maybe you got a good one.

I was also faster than them with similar mods.

Dunno but, the grade of stainless will make a HUGE difference in a couple variables that you mentioned. As they say you get what you pay for. If your worried about that just go with a aluminized system. And I get your doin yours on the cheap and I won't doubt that your pipe only system flows, it should! He might not be able to lose the cat since he might have to deal with Aircare and also wants a quieter that straight pipe truck which leaves little choice in what he can do. After market with a nice high flow muff with nice mandrel bends..... Also Spike you might look into a cold air set-up that helped mine in the egt department as well...
