Injector Suggestions
Hello all,
Its time to upgrade my truck again. I just got my gauges installed and now I am ready to start adding power to my truck.
A little background. My truck is a 1998 Dodge Ram 2500 with a 12 valve with the stock HX35 turbo. The tranny is mildly built and my tranny guy says it should hold 650 hp but my end goal is to go to about 400-450hp. There is a long list of upgrades that I have planned which includes motor work (studs and orings) and twins later on but I am going to start with injectors.
Right now my truck has 305,000ish miles on it and I am fairly sure the injectors are original. They haze badly at idle, especially when cold, and the egts are warmer than they should be at stock power which all leads me to believe bad injectors.
So what injectors are recommended? I am fairly sure I want SAC injectors but I don't know enough about them compared to VCO injectors to make an educated guess on what to buy. Also are 7 hole injectors good for a 400 hp daily driver or would 5 hole ones be better? There's so much information about this vs that and this is better than that it gets very confusing.
I plan on getting AFC live to control any excess fuel so I want to buy bigger than I need so I have room to grow.
Something else that may affect injector choice is my running WVO. How might this change which injectors I should go with?
I apologize for the longish post and I appreciate any input or advice that you all can give me.
Thanks much

400 horse can easily be done with stock 5x10 injectors that come in a 98. i would go with 5x12 sacs from power driven, dfi, diesel auto power would be my top 3 choices for injector companies. if 400 horse is all you want that will easily get you there. no reason to go much bigger.
Ok cool. That helps a lot.
Just out of curiosity, are two extra holes worth it? (5 vs 7) I've read they are supposed to atomize better.
Also, is there a danger with going too big with injectors?
Thanks again.

Some buy into the hype others don't. From my research and such most high end guys, high horsepower, knowledgable guys etc run 5 hole. No reason not to. Aswell 7 hole adds more risk of cracking. And not really other than less control over fueling, haze at idle and low rpm. You'd be surprised how much better proper sized injectors work over over sized.
