Default Cam Choice

Well here goes, I've gotta pull the aluminum front cover off my truck I have an oil leak. I figured since I've gotta pull the cam, I should go ahead and replace it with a better bump stick. I tow, not intrested in drag racing or sled pulling. I'm looking into a hamilton cam, What would be the best cam for a set of budget twins stock turbo hx35 over ht3b. The truck is a stock 1995 175hp P7100 pump 12 valve cummins with no mods to date. I've got my gauges, I have a spare 12 valve head that i need to send and have cut for an o'ring groove, any recomendations on machine shops to do this. This is probably a good time to put the 2095 rack plug in. Any recomandations on injectors and delivery valves. I prefer less smoke.

Since you plan to pull the head and all that might as well get the 188/220 cam, it's their biggest drop in and yields the biggest gains, more torque, power , spool up, egt reduction and mileage. I think most of the Hamiltons are the same price so your not really losing out getting the highest one. As for injectors it depends how hard you want to run your ht3b and same with delivery valves. It's all in tuning anyways. Probably to support the twins well a set of 5x14 would be perfect from whichever company you feel comfortable with and either a set of 181 from a stock 180/215 horse truck, or 191. There are tons of options on dv's, some are slightly cleaner then others 024, 022, 191, hybrids, 181 are basically all the same just add or minus alittle smoke/heat / power. You can always tune the smoke down a bit. Full cuts and lazers are where things get really smokey. Basically whichever you can get for the best price.

I would stay with the stock cam .. plenty good enough if your not racing ..,.

Know plenty of guys who tow with 35/3b .. never an issue with egt's .. plenty of power .. anything else is just going to drain ya .. save your cash unless you MUST replace the cam ..

191's and a set of 1215 stock injectors and .010 spacer under the inj. should be great runner ..

If he wants to replace the cam it's a hell of a good idea. If you look at a dyno chart of what a cam actually does to a cummins you will quickly realize the stocker is lacking severely. And most definitely doesn't need to be a drag racer or puller to utilize it. In fact for towing the egt control and spool up would be extremely beneficial. There would be literally 0 lag with that setup and would pull like a supercharged big block. Instant throttle response.

thats not exactly true ... it will not be instant throttle response. May be 50-100 rpm quicker than it is now. In my personal opinion for the op's truck I would leave the stock cam in.
