Default 94 Dodge Cummins 47RH Overdrive Shifting Erractic! Help!

Im actually new to the forums but I bought a 94 dodge 2500 and have came across a problem. The trans will shift in every gear fine but overdrive will come in and only stay in if i hold the pedal down and go faster. Replaced tps. Trans shop said trans was ok. My guess either overdrive solenoid or computer. Im stumped. Any ideas would help! Thanks Zac!

Do you know what exactly the trans shop checked or how they came to the conclusion that the trans was ok? How far down do you have to push the pedal?

I had the same problem but I installed two switches. Lock up and overdrive. Won't go in until I hit the switch now. Not very user friendly if my gf needed to drive it but works for me

Default trans help

You can try moving the wires that are between the alternator&the bracket. Take the bolts out of alternator&take the wires & tie them away from the alternator. What happens is the coating on the wires starts to break down& the alternator sends interference down them. Never had that problem on anything older than a '99 but it is worth a shot

You have to push it down a lot to get it to stay in overdrive. Cheasepeake transmissions in Maryland looked at it and said trans shifts fine and does not think it's trans related. He said electrical. Replaced tps and brake switch today. Still nothing... Bd sells something for the tps for noise interference should I try that or just put a pot and get rid of the tps? Has lock out switch and can lock once in overdrive and will stay in. So I can do that but I want to be able to drive the truck without messing with a switch

Try moving the wires. My family has 6 Cummins from '95 to '10. I have done that trick to a '99& 2 '01s. It may be a 24v thing because my '95 is a stick. But if there's a ball of wires under the alternator move them. Hope that helps!
