Default 12 valve won't start except off ether

98 12 valve with 370 injector, 13 mm pump used don't know much about. Brand new air dog and duel feed lines to the pump,19.5 degrees of pump timing. Won't start unless u put ether on a rag. Thought it wasn't cranking fast enough so I put 2battery chargers on it and used jumper cables to make sure I had a good connection to starter and grounds. Cranks faster but still no start. Smoke comes out of the pipe during cranking

Yep revs up and sounds good, idles fine, shut it down and won't restart. I don't have a fuel shut off solenoid on it I just flip the lever up manually for now and does not have a intake heater but it's 90 degrees outside

check for fuel leaks on your high press lines, DV holders, and return lines first. if thats not it recheck timing ... also what is the CR ratio of this motor?

You're issue is either fuel supply to the ip, or the ip its self, try to hold up the lever and have your buddy turn it over, i have seen them where they will run not held tight up but will not start. pretty much what it is doing here. try that and get back on here and let us know how it turns out for you

One of the problems is this engine was a basket case went I got it, I put a Hamilton cam it with valve springs pushrods everything. Not sure of compression ratio but it's a bear to turn over by the balancer bolts. Bottom end is supposed to be a better than the original. I double checked injection timing but doesn't mean I'm right. And there is no fuel plate in the pump

if you are thinking your timing may be out and you are not certain, pin time it and try to run it then, if that was you're issue then take you're time and advance the timing again. if that is not the issue keep giving us information

Pulled fuel shut off up and pinched off return line. Sounded better but still no fire

All fuel lines are new by the way and I'm running the fuel pump off a fuel cell with a draw straw and fuel pump mounted in the bed

so what you are saying is you have fuel to the pump, but it will not start by its self? did you try to give it some throttle when cranking? (stupid question but sometimes small things are overlooked) Also does it smoke at all when you are turning it over?
