I have a 2006, what has anyone done to reduce engine compartment temps? what about removing insulation under the hood (just for summer) I am trying to figure out how to get more air flow since the front (coolers, intercooler, ect.) pretty much blocks the whole engine from getting fresh air. Thanks

 

First off, is your engine over heating. The engine does not need cooler air around it, it not a deutz diesel. What needs air to cool is the coolant and air to air charger, a/c cooler and transmission. the insulation is their for noise not to keep the engine warm. Plus its just radiant heat, the block is much to thick for the surrounding air to cool off.

 

They sell blankets for exhaust housings, and manifolds.
Wrap your down pipe, that will help.

 

I am just trying to get as much air flow as possible. I am not having any issues just want to prevent then in the long run. I plan on buying a turbo blanket and will wrap my exhaust manifold as soon as I get my new one (pulse) I have a tranny cooler with fan to mount next to the frame rail. Thanks for the replies.

 

Exhaust manifold and turbo blanket definately help. Ive had mine on for over 5 years now. Also Ive fabricated an extended front air dam, 6 inches below stock. This helps create low pressure (vacuum) behind the air dam, and literally pulls in high pressure air normally piling up in front of your grille. This forces the air through your condenser, radiator, and intercooler, at a faster rate. Helps cooling.......

Get a hood with the scoop in front like the SRT or aftermarket. But like said cummins is all good on set up as is and no need to worry! Must have had a hot gasser at some point huh!

Now that would look bad-***!!!! Hell even a tall cowl induction would look cool. My chevy dually has a fiberglass cowl induction hood. Kinda needs it to hide the supercharger. Looks pretty mean.
