My rear axle has enough gear oil but its howls like there is a bad bearing somewhere. I put ladder bars on and from the friction my axle REALLY howls now it is driving me up the wall. Some friends that know more than me said its a carrier or pinion bearing that needs replaced? I need some input. I'm so nervous that this will cost me an arm and a leg to fix.

 

Sounds to me like either a bad bearing or the ring and pi ion is about to go. Same thing happened on my wife's mustang about 300 miles before the ring and pinion sheared a few teeth off.

 

You know that it is clean, proper lube? Is it limited slip and you didn't add friction modifier?

 

does it go away when you let off the gas mine made the same noise when i hit about 75 and it was the pinion bearing making noise next time you hear the noise let off the gas and see if it goes away if it does id say its your pinion bearing
