Rpm spikes and no Alt charging

Rpm spikes and no Alt charging
Driving down the highway rpm rapidly spiked wide open for a split second, then volt gauge went to zero while truck still running. It happened right after a rain storm. I have no idea what it is.. anybody got any ideas?? 2001 vin7 6 speed
