Default Speedo Problem!

Hey guys! I'm new to the forum and new to my Dodge. I bought it from a buddy of mine and noticed the speedometer is off 10 MPH.

Now I have done some digging but have yet to find anything related to my problem. When i turn the truck on the speedometer needle goes straight to 10 mph at a dead stop and remains exactly 10 mph off.

As far as I know this truck is 100% stock with factory gearing and stock wheels. I just wanted to see what your input was before taking it to a dealer and see if its something I could fix myself.

Thanks for any help!

be interesting to plug in an OBDII gauge (like a scangauge-II or edge CTS, etc) and see if the ECU is showing 10mph wheel speed at a dead stop, or if the pointer was tampered with..

Thanks for the response. Do you think if i plugged in my buddies edge programmer and re-calibrated it for the stock tire size I got, it would keep the settings after I unplugged it? I was also wondering if that little plastic gear on the transfer case could be off a tooth?? <-- Not sure if the position of the gear makes any difference at all.

My next step would be to swap clusters with my buddy sometime down the road and see if it does it to his.

um, your speed sensor is in your rear axle...

no gear, it's a sensor and a tone ring on the rear end.

vehicle speed is all digital on these trucks.

the needle just moves where the ECM tells it to. the ECM shows speed digitally.

the edge will not recalibrate the dash speedometer or the ECM.

it simply runs the ECM speed reading through a formula on the fly to display corrected vehicle speed on the attitude monitor.

my adrenaline with pulse does the same thing, but it doesn't change the dash speed.

I would have to use my smarty programmer to do that.
