I've got a 99 with cold air intake and 5 inch exhaust,and few other things, I bought the 5 inch exhaust kit from Rollin smoke diesel, now I thought I had a stock turbo but a buddy of mine has a 99 as well with the same mods! My turbo is 3 times as loud! I think I might have an hx40. How do I know for sure?

 

Meassure the compressor housing or look for the model number on it.. Or look at your buddies turbo and then yours and see if the housing is bigger. I doubt it. Also is you truck auto or manual and is you buddies a auto or manual.. Because in 99 if you have a manual its a HY35 and autos have HX35

 

IIRC HY's started in 2000 or 2001 up and came on autos only.

I think your buddy had a silencer ring in his turbo and your silencer ring is removed from the turbo...

 

oh I thought it was in 99. My bad...

 

HY35 on Automatics and HX35 on Manuel trucks. The hx is so much louder, before I went to an HX40 I threw a HX35 on mine from the HY And loved it.
