Default is this a good deal?

So I am in the market for an 03-04 year and found a truck for sale. Opinions on whether this is a good deal?

2004 quad cab, SLT
4x4
long bed
5.9 HO, auto tranny
272,000 miles

The guy has had it 1 year, he is not not sure if the previous owner did any work to it i.e. injectors, tranny...
It runs good currently. I won't be doing any towing with it, put maybe 7000 miles per year on it.

He is asking $13,000 obo

What do you think? I know these cummins motors last a long while but I have never purchased or owned a vehicle with that many miles

From a private party I would say that is a pretty fair price depending on the overall condition of the truck. At that mileage I would want to at least have the funds available to replace the injectors...just in case.

I have a 04 3500 srw Laramie edition. Had 143k when I Bought it paid 13.5 for it. Body is a 7/10 and interiors a 9.5/10. There's no way in hell I'd personally pay that much for a truck with 272000. And why is he selling it after only owning a year or so.

Says he bought a house back in june and is remodeling it and is running short on money. He does not really need that much truck so he's selling it.

The Cummins can go a long time, many have. That said, mine was rebuilt at 216666 miles.
mine had broken rings, cylinders 5 & 6 were shot, and all 6 injectors were bad (which likely led to the previous problems). It still ran and pulled great, so its hard to say, i would definitely check for excessive blowby from top and bottom. Also i have found out that just because the engine can go many hundreds of thousands of miles, dosent mean the rest of the truck can, there are other key components that tend to wear out after that many miles, steering, brake calipers, lift pump, ball joints, shocks, ect. but then again if it was well maintained it could be a great truck.
Mine is an 04.5 that i picked up for $12,000 with around 212000 miles. now a little over a year owning it ive almost bought it twice
just a few things to think about that i wish i would have known.
Best of luck!

Do not do it. That tranny if never rebuilt will go next, I know this because I have an 03 that I bought with 212,xxx and the tranny was shot by 213,000 put 11,000 into the tranny, transfer case and driveline. Cummins kill those stock tranny's because of such high tourqe Personally I wouldn't do it for more than 8k. Even better yet go get yourself a 24v 98-02 with a manual and you'll be hard pressed to find a problem in it
