if you pull the plate it will add some power and smoke yes ... will it compound your trans issues .... most likley
YES... you need a pyrometer to know how hot your making the cylinders because you can and will kill it if you load it up too much about 1300*F is a real good number to stop at ..... not that you cant go past but for longevity pourpses I reccomend not beating to death if you want it to keep running and dont want to have to rebuild it soon .... IMHO of course

It will not add a slight amount of power and smoke. It will add a lot of power and a lot more smoke. The smoke, you can tune out with the AFC, but the power is there to stay.
How long your trans lasts without the plate depends completely on how you drive it. If you don't have any other mods, just removing the plate won't make that huge of a difference until the TC locks up unless you're standing on it. Just putting around though, it'll be a big baby. Treat it like a baby and the trans should hold up fine, depending on what's already wrong with it. Start using that new power though, and it won't last long. I don't beat my truck, but I do tow a lot. I burned up a two year old Chrysler replacement trans in three months just by moving the stock fuel plate full forward. Taking it out completely... well. You get the idea.

I you're talking about your 1993 cummins it doesn't have a fuel plate, it has the VE rotary pump. The P-Pump has the fuel plate.

guages with no plate i would highly advise and the life time of your tranny plays a big roll on how you drive it what will kill it fast is burnouts, boosted launches, and flouring it and causing it to down shift hard

I sort of assumed he was asking about a different truck.

Also a 93 wouldn't have lockup. Towing in OD with mods will require a large trans cooler to postpone the inevitable trans roasting.
