Default HELP!!! 1996 F250 PSD Wont start

Hey i need help. i just bought a 1996 ford f250 PSD from a sale and they said it had a bad motor. Well i tugged her home and cranked a while and went over fuses and easy stuff. Well i gave her a shot of either and she fired a bit so i knew the engine wasnt bad. I went on later to start her with either while holding the pedal. she caught and ran. but she wouldnt idle and it would rev very slowly after 2000rpms. I went to meganic for some advice and he said to replace the fuel pump. I did. also cleaned the FPRS (fuel pressure relief screen). I filled the fuel bowl once again and she fired up and idled for a minute and sounded great. but then it died out of the blue. i tried to start it back. It would start back with ether. but wouldnt idle. i started it and help the pedal to the floor and it got up to 2000 rpms and wouldnt go any higher. But after running at 2000rpms for 5 secs the check engine light would come on and the engine would kill itself. Now i have no fire at all. No smoke out of tailpipe either. Now im stuck. PLZ HELP

I don't know if this will be your fix or not but the cam position sensor likes to go out on these engines. Try replacing it. I it's bad, you'll get a no start.

Oils full, hpop is full, got plently of fuel, fuel filter looks good but gonna replace it. Also yesterday i figured out it starts when the engine is cold. so i can start it with ether and run it for about 20 sec at 1500 rmps then the engine warms up and the check engine light comes on and it kills itself. But then i cant start it back with ether it just dosent fire anymore, also when the check engine light comes on the glow plugs starts to flicker on and off a couple times then turns on like you just turned the key on then it shuts off. I also have a computer reader and it dosent pull any codes even when the check engine light is on. Its fricken retarded

Quit using ether its really bad for diesel engines. Check to make sure your glow plugs are working and glow plug relay.

I forget how to test your GPR search it. Then if those two things check out. Replace the CPS cheap insurance.

Yes i know ether is bad im just testing theories. Would the PCM be bad because its not throwing codes even when the check engine lights on.

I couldn't tell ya man been awhile since I fooled with a ford. I'd try what I stated before. At least do the CPS their cheap and easy to rule out if not the issue.
