Need help cummins smokes wont start, injectors are getting fuel
I have a 96 f250 with a 1st gen cummins, I was driving down the road and all of a sudden it just quit, i pulled over and tried starting it started but was smoking and idling very rough. Both of my fuel tanks are full. When I got it home it wouldn't start at all, it smokes white grayish color. I checked lift pump pressure its at 13psi, tested the shutoff selenoid, and cracked the lines on the injectors to see if it getting fuel and it does. I'm stumped this is my first cummins and i just got it less than a month ago, any help would be appreciated
Thats what I'm thinking is the IP, but my question is could a IP go out without any problems before and all of a sudden quit working? and if it does quit working would i still be getting fuel to injectors, but maybe not enough pressure??
Make sure you have adequate fuel pressure and a good lift pump for sure. That lift pump is the life-line for the IP. If that LP is weak or failing, it will starve that new IP of fuel and kill it.
