Well guys I'm buying a block to restore and make a race truck and want to make sure its not a 53 block how can I make sure its not and what years did they make them? I only pad 100 dollar for it so I don't think I've lost anything

 

It'll have 53 cast on the lower driver side front of the block. about the same are where the power steering pump sets.

 

Up front below the oil filter or in the same place on the opposite side of the block. They mainly show up in the 24v engines but I think there has been a few rare cases of them on the last of the 12v's.

Ya the guy i work with his 1998 12v cummins has a 53 block. love that truck though.
