My 19981/2 24v dodge 2500 does not communicate with scan tool I have been told it will probably need a new ecm or pcm .If it does are there better aftermarket units available?
As this is my first diesel I appreciate the help. The truck runs well.

 

What checks were used to confirm a failed pcm? Have the powers and grounds been checked? Good cig lighter fuse? Other modules disconnected? Will the truck run? Any other symptoms?

checks I did Test NTC-3A PCM Power & Ground checks passed. ECm Power and ground circuits NTC-35 A test passed.The truck runs well it does not seem to have any issues other than the fact the dcl will not connect to my scanner I tester the sensor ground in the dlc there was none I grounded it and was able to get four codes out of it then it stopped communicating.the four codes were 234 237 1689 and 1698sinceI replaced the lift pump after it dropped dead truck has run like a gem but scanner will not hook up.

 

I would not replace the pcm by any means. I would verify ground circuit with a volt meter or scope set at 100mV then follow troubleshooting flow chart for no communication. Sounds like a dlc pin issue or a bad ground.
