I have an 05 6.0 disel ps, after a few miles it will become chugging and blowing black smoke. That is at stops or if you slow down. I added atf to the fuel per a friend and it started to run fine. I refueled and now its doing the same thing. Any ideas on whats wrong it has 106000 miles. my first diesel pick up. fuel filter issue injectors I'm not sure. Please help.

 

You should never reealy add stuff to the fuel on thse trucks. Sounds like your EGR valve is gummed up and sticking or the turbo needs cleaning.

Not to be a smart a$$ but why do you feel nothing should be added to the fuel? When I bought my 06 350 the service manager at the dealership told me to always use a fuel additive year round, not just winter time. I had been using Diesel Service but since seeing the post comparing additives I will be switching.

Sorry, I wasn't clear on "stuff", what I was trying to say in fewer words was ATF,used motor oil, kerosine,peanutbutter LOL. Yes I have used fuel additives like Amsoil, and Lucas. Part of the problem with additives that are not desighned as fuel addtive is they can mess up the filters.

 

Yeah I'm not a big advocate for ATF or WMO. And this is coming from a guy who burns WVO on a regular basis and I was told I was crazy.
