Default Oil Pressure went to 0 at idle

Hey guys

Started the 2000 5.9 this morning and all was fine. The oil pressure showed fine so as it warmed up I went back in the house. I came out and the oil pressure showed 0 and the check gauges light was on. I shut it down and checked the oil. It was ok. There was no abnormal noise. I pulled the filled cap and all looks wet up top. Sound like a sending unit? Im reading these are pretty common and looks like Cummins is the place to buy it, Stealership is like 250! ANy help would be appreciated! Thanks!

This is a lot cheaper:

Also, check to see if you have a Cummins dealer in the area. I know I can get genuine Cummins parts cheaper from a truck (semi) dealer than the stealership.

Thanks guys. I went off and left my serial number at home. Ill have to get that off the truck or out of the book and give them a call. They gave me a part # but wanted the serial number to confirm. Sounds like this is a pretty common occurance.

Yep senors are a wear part, so you will have to replace them from time to time.

To ease your mind and be sure its the sending unit, go to orielly's and get a cheap manual oil pressure gauge. I picked one up for $18. There is a port on top of the oil filter you can hook it up to.

Mine went out and oil pr. dropped to zero. I don't have the number now but the price was far cheaper at the cummins dealer the dodge people wanted to sell me a different part with some adapter for twice the price. but I think I paid about $65 dollars. the info is on my dead computer.
