I have a 1995 cummins with 270,000 miles on it and it doesn't seem to be running smooth. When i start it up the idle is low, then as it warms up the idle picks up and remains that way for the rest of the day. When it's super cold it also has a tough time starting and runs rough until the engine warms up, again low idle (sometimes it dies after starting during the coldest days). any help or suggestions would be great. thanks

 

re-time it, and get a valve adjustment, run some cetane boost in your fuel too.

 

Check the timing and definately do a valve adjustment. this should get it smooth out.

did the valves and she's running real nice. could use a little adjustment on the timing, but the valves helped tremendously. thanks
