Today I went to look at a truck i wanted to maybe buy. I get in the truck and noticed that the truck isent a 5 or 6 speed? a 4 speed manual with granny low and 4th being overdrive. This owner is trying to tell me its an original tranny. I believe this is false and a possible swap from an older gasser. Anyone have an idea? thanks. The truck is a 95 12v dodge cummins with 180k 2500. He told me it use to be an utility truck but he swapd the 8 foot bed on himself and just got the whole truck recently repainted. It looks beautiful but im worried about this tranny plus the price for 9k does not seem about right. Any info would be great about the 4 speed would be great.

I don't think they ever put a 4 speed manual behind a cummins not even the first gens.

 

i wonder if its like my dads old truck, apparently on certain models ive seen some where it says first gear is L then first is actually where second gear should be and where fifth is a OD. i guess it has something to do with starting it in second so you would only use L or the real first gear for hauling.

The nv4500 in my 95' says 4 w/ low... It's a 5spd and the guy is telling the truth.

Thats how it should be. first is your low and fifth is your overdrive.

is how it should look. thats what my buddy has on his 94 12 valve 5 speed and yes there all nv4500's
