Default heater core and muffler question

hey guys!
so two questions..got pulled over by a state boy here in wisconsin for truck being too loud. hafta put a muffler back onanyway i can get around this? i thought about puutin it back on for inspection and then runnin a piece of straight pipe through the muffler. would that work? and sound the same as striaght pipe?
also how hard is it to change the heater core? mines leaking.

Muffler, get a performance one. They are straight through mufflers, and just take some drone out. Otherwise, they don't change the sound level much.

Heater core? Ugh, its a day job. The dash has to come out, A/C drained, then the HVAC system can come out.

I run the 4" straight through muffler that came with the diamond eye system I bought. I like it it's slightly quieter than straight piped. Like stated above heater core isn't the most fun job but not terrible. Haynes manual has a good write up for it.
